Lucknow Super Giants captain KL Rahul was not the only batsman to catch RCB skipper Dinesh Karthik in the eliminator round of the IPL T20 in Kolkata yesterday. He has also left the game.
Had Rahul caught this catch alone there would have been a big turning point in the game.
RCB beat Lucknow Super Giants by 14 runs in the eliminator round at Eden Gardens in Kolkata yesterday. Batting first, the RCP team added 207 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs. The Lucknow Super Giants, who set a target of 208 for victory, lost by 14 runs for 193 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs.
Raj Pattidar added 112 off 54 balls to help RCB win the match, with Dinesh Karthik adding 37 not out. The duo put up a 98-run partnership for the 5th wicket to lead to the biggest score increase.
The big turning point in the match was when Dinesh Karthik was caught by Lucknow captain KL Rahul. Mohsin Khan bowled the 15th over of the match, which was bowled by Dinesh Karthik in the direction of the cover where the ball fell into the hands of fielder KL Rahul. Rahul left the catch easy to catch. Rahul got the ball in his hands and then fell to the ground.
When Rahul slipped this catch, the RCB team was in great stupor. Dinesh Karthik was on the field with 2 runs. Taking advantage of this opportunity Karthik anchored strongly and batted. Maybe if Rahul had liked this catch to Dinesh Karthik the game would have gone in a different direction.
Mentor Gautam Gambhir watched from the dugout as Rahul caught the catch. But Gautam Gambhir gestured with agony and rage when he saw the ball hit the ground unable to catch the silk in Rahul’s hands.
In an interview after the defeat, Lucknow Super Giants captain Rahul said, “It may have been because we missed the catch that we could not win. Slipping an easy catch does not help to win the match. When one of the top 3 players in the line-up scores a century, most likely the team will win.
The Pattidar game was excellent in that respect. We missed 3 catches for the menu alone. RCB fielded well and we did badly. Proud to have arrived as a new team and finished in 4th place. Let’s take the experiences of the good things found in it. We made a lot of mistakes, which is what every team does. Let’s try to come next stronger. A team with young players, we will learn from mistakes and become better players, ”he said
