FGCU Legend Whitney Knight Inducted into ASUN Hall of Fame
A standout guard and trailblazer for Florida Gulf Coast University women’s basketball, Whitney Knight, has been named to the ASUN Hall of Fame’s 11th induction class. The induction ceremony is scheduled for Thursday, May 28, 2026, in Jacksonville, celebrating Knight alongside fellow honorees Madi Talbert Artz (Lipscomb, cross country/track & field), Dallas Moore (North Florida, men’s basketball), and Ivy Wallen Murks (North Alabama, women’s basketball).
A Defining Eagle
Knight’s selection solidifies her legacy as one of the most decorated athletes in both FGCU and ASUN Conference history. Playing for the Eagles from 2011-2016, she became the first player in program history drafted into the WNBA, selected 15th overall by the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016. She was the seventh ASUN player ever to be drafted.
“Knight’s impact on the conference and the Green & Blue remains unmatched nearly a decade after her graduation,” the university stated.
Accolades and Achievements
The accolades accumulated throughout Knight’s career are extensive. She was named to the ASUN All-Decade Team and earned Associated Press Honorable Mention All-America recognition as a senior. She was also a candidate for the prestigious NCAA Senior CLASS Award, recognizing excellence on and off the court. A two-time ASUN Player of the Year (2015, 2016), Knight is one of only two Eagles to achieve three First Team All-ASUN selections, alongside FGCU great Sarah Hansen.
Her postseason success is equally impressive, highlighted by being named the 2015 ASUN Tournament MVP and earning a spot on the 2016 All-Tournament Team. She was also recognized as the 2012 ASUN All-Freshman Team selection and earned a program-record seven ASUN Player of the Week honors.
Dominance on the Court
Knight was a versatile and formidable presence on the court, instrumental in FGCU’s rise as a mid-major power. As a senior, she led the ASUN in blocks (99), steals (64), and three-pointers per game (2.8), while also ranking among the league’s top six in rebounds and double-doubles. She recorded eight double-doubles and five 20-point games that season, consistently finding the bottom of the net from beyond the arc in every game played. Her nine-block performance remains a standout defensive achievement in conference history.
Statistical Legacy
Throughout her career, Knight amassed impressive statistics, finishing with 1,574 points, 735 rebounds, 333 blocks, 245 assists, and 206 steals. She currently holds the program record for career blocks by a significant margin and ranks second in career points, field goals made, field goals attempted, three-pointers made, and rebounds.
“She produced one of the most complete statistical profiles ever recorded by an Eagle,” a senior official stated.
Continuing Legacy
Knight joins a distinguished group of FGCU alumni in the ASUN Hall of Fame, including Courtney Platt, Cheyenne Jenks, and Carmen Paez (softball), Chris Sale, Casey Coleman, and Richard Bleier (baseball), and Brooke Youngquist Sweat (volleyball). Her induction is a testament to her enduring impact on the university and the ASUN Conference.
