Thiruvananthapuram: As CPM State Secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan is undergoing treatment, there is a discussion in the party about handing over the temporary charge to someone else. The Available PB meeting to be held at AKG Center on Sunday will take a decision in this regard. The final decision will take the opinion of Kodiyeri and senior leaders.

General Secretary Sitaram Yachuri and PB member Prakash Karat will attend the state committee meeting at AKG Center on Sunday and Monday. Kodiyeri Balakrishnan was the first to resign on November 13, 2020. Kodiyeri had expressed his willingness to stay away due to health reasons at the state secretariat meeting and was applying for leave.

A. Vijayaraghavan was given the charge instead. After a year of treatment, Kodiyeri returned to his post. In 2015, Kodiyeri became the secretary at the conference held in Alappuzha. He was re-elected in Thrissur in 2018. He became the state secretary for the third time in the state conference held in Ernakulam this year.

The state committee meeting will discuss the further steps to be taken in the face of a strong fight with Governor Arif Muhammad Khan and the government. The leadership believes that if the governor does not sign the bills, there will be a crisis. The party is concerned about the Lokayukta Amendment Bill. If the governor does not sign the bills, the old law will be reinstated.
