LOS ANGELES, February 7, 2026 — Ludwig Göransson, the two-time Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globe, and Grammy-winning composer of “Sinners,” dominated the 7th Annual Society of Composers and Lyricists (SCL) Awards on Friday, February 6, taking home two top honors at the Skirball Cultural Center.

The SCL Awards celebrated outstanding achievements in film, television, and interactive media scoring and songwriting.
- Ludwig Göransson won Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film and Outstanding Original Song for a Drama or Documentary for his work on “Sinners.”
- “KPop Demon Hunters” songwriters EJAE and Mark Sonnenblick secured the award for Outstanding Original Song for a Comedy or Musical with “Golden.”
- The SCL honored the 50th anniversary of “Rocky” with a musical tribute led by composer Bill Conti.
Göransson’s wins included Outstanding Original Score for a Studio Film and, alongside Raphael Saadiq, Outstanding Original Song for a Drama or Documentary for “I Lied to You,” both from “Sinners.” He also received the 2026 Spirit of Collaboration Award alongside director Ryan Coogler, recognizing their longstanding creative partnership on films including “Fruitvale Station,” “Creed,” “Black Panther,” “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” and “Sinners.” “Sinners” itself boasts a record-breaking 16 Oscar nominations, the most of any film in Academy Awards history.
What makes a film score truly stand out? According to the SCL Awards, it’s a combination of technical skill, emotional resonance, and a strong collaborative relationship between composer and director, as exemplified by Göransson and Coogler’s work.
Television Scores Shine
The awards weren’t limited to film. Theodore Shapiro earned the SCL Award for Outstanding Original Score for a Television Production for “Severance,” while Cristóbal Tapia de Veer continued his winning streak, securing Outstanding Original Title Sequence for a Television Production for “The White Lotus” for a third time.
A Golden Anniversary for a Classic
The SCL also paid tribute to the 50th anniversary of “Rocky,” featuring a musical performance conducted by Academy Award-winning composer Bill Conti, who scored all five films in the “Rocky” franchise and co-composed its iconic theme, “Gonna Fly Now (Theme from Rocky).” Melissa Manchester added a poignant moment with a performance of “I’ll Never Say Goodbye,” her Oscar-nominated song from the 1979 film “The Promise,” written by David Shire and the late Alan Bergman and Marilyn Bergman. Alan Bergman, who passed away in 2025, was remembered during the segment.
