Palm Springs,Calif. – kristen Stewart is open to revisiting the world of “Twilight,” but with a twist: she’d rather direct a remake than reprise her role as Bella Swan. The actress revealed her interest Sunday at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Creative Impact Awards.
A New Vision for Forks
Stewart’s potential involvement could bring a fresh viewpoint to the beloved vampire saga.
The idea isn’t about simply recreating what’s been done before. Stewart expressed admiration for the original directors, specifically Catherine Hardwicke and Chris Weitz, acknowledging their unique approaches. “I love what Catherine did, I love what Chris did, I love what all of the directors did with the movies,” she saeid.”They were so themselves and weird and kind of like, squirrelly, and just so present in that time when they didn’t really know what they were yet, like before they blew up.”
Stewart originally starred as Bella Swan alongside Robert Pattinson’s Edward Cullen in all five “Twilight” films: 2008’s “Twilight,” 2009’s “The Twilight Saga: New Moon,” 2010’s “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse,” 2011’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 1,” and 2012’s “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn – Part 2.”
Beyond the big Screen: An Animated Spin-Off
While a full-scale relaunch of the films isn’t currently in the works,fans of the “Twilight” universe have another project to anticipate. Netflix is developing an animated series based on Stephenie meyer’s 2020 companion novel, “Midnight sun.”
According to Netflix,”Midnight Sun” offers “a retelling of the first entry in the ‘twilight’ story,” but this time,the narrative unfolds from Edward’s point of view.
Meyer will serve as an executive producer alongside Meghan Hibbett of fickle Fish Films. Wyck Godfrey and Marty Bowen from Temple Hill Entertainment, and Erik Feig and Samie Kim Falvey from Picturestart will also executive produce. Sinead Daly is set to executive produce and write the series.
