KTM ETS Discount: 30% Off Tickets for Ramadan & Beyond

by ethan.brook News Editor

KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 18 — Travelers planning journeys across Malaysia can now enjoy a significant discount on Electric Train Service (ETS) tickets, with KTM Berhad (KTMB) announcing a 30 percent reduction on all routes, effective immediately. This expanded offer builds upon an earlier promotion offering a 20 percent discount on select ETS trips from February 18 to 22, initially intended to coincide with the Chinese New Year celebrations and the beginning of Ramadan.

The latest move by KTMB aims to provide greater savings for passengers, particularly as demand for rail travel remains high. Passengers can grab advantage of the discount by using the promo codes NURRAMADAN or RAMADANTIBA when booking their tickets, with the applicable code determined by the train number and travel date. This latest offer on ETS tickets comes as KTMB continues to boost capacity to meet surging demand.

Tickets can be purchased through the KITS Style app, the KTMB official website, or via any KTMB ticketing channel. KTMB is encouraging passengers to book their tickets as soon as possible to secure their seats and benefit from the promotion, as availability is subject to change and is valid whereas stocks last.

Increased ETS Capacity for Chinese New Year

The 30 percent discount comes after KTMB significantly increased the number of daily ETS trips to 58 in anticipation of the Chinese New Year travel surge. According to Transport Minister Anthony Loke, this represents one of the highest numbers of ETS services in the company’s history. The increase was made possible by the addition of three new ETS train sets, resulting in 16 extra services.

For the period between February 13 and February 22, KTMB is offering approximately 183,000 tickets, comprising 131,000 existing ETS tickets, an additional 44,100 ETS tickets, and 7,300 Electric Multiple Unit Plus (EMU+) tickets. Two additional large-capacity trips, providing a combined 5,040 seats, are running from February 15 to February 22 utilizing the eighth ETS set.

Expansion of ETS3 Service to Johor Baru

KTMB has too been expanding its ETS3 service to Johor Baru, responding to consistently high demand. Tickets for ETS3 have been consistently sold out since its introduction, prompting the rail operator to plan the addition of two more trains within the next one to two weeks. This expansion of services to the southern sector will also benefit northern routes, as trains operate across multiple sectors, allowing for seats to be resold along different segments of the journey.

Ticket Availability and Booking Information

ETS tickets for February, including KTM InterCity and shuttle services, have been available for purchase since November 17, allowing passengers ample time to plan their travel arrangements. KTMB has fully transitioned to a cashless ticketing system as of January 1, 2025, and encourages passengers to utilize cashless transactions through the KITS Style app, ticketing kiosks, or the KTMB official website (www.ktmb.com.my) for a faster and more convenient experience.

Currently, KTMB operates 42 ETS services and 49 KTM InterCity services daily. The addition of the new ETS sets and the expansion of the ETS3 service demonstrate KTMB’s commitment to improving rail travel options for Malaysians.

Passengers are reminded to check the KTMB website or app for the most up-to-date schedules and availability, and to use the correct promo code when booking to receive the 30 percent discount. The promotion is a limited-time offer and is subject to availability.

Looking ahead, KTMB anticipates continued high demand for ETS services, particularly with the ongoing school holidays and festive seasons. The company will continue to monitor passenger numbers and adjust its services accordingly to ensure a comfortable and efficient travel experience for all.
