Kurt Russell Confirmed to Return for Monarch: Legacy of Monsters Season 2

Apple TV+’s monster-verse drama, Monarch: Legacy of Monsters, will be back for a second season with Kurt Russell reprising his pivotal role. The actor himself confirmed the news in a recently released video.

The first season of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters captivated audiences with its intricate storyline following two siblings as they unravel a family connection to the clandestine organization known as Monarch. The narrative skillfully interweaves events spanning from the 1950s to the present day, revealing how the secrets surrounding Monarch and Army officer Lee Shaw continue to pose a threat.

Russell, alongside his son Wyatt Russell, portrays the older and younger iterations of Lee Shaw, respectively. The Season 1 finale left viewers questioning the fate of the elder Shaw after he bravely remained behind to address a critical malfunction within a portal intended for the crew’s return to Earth. Tragically, Shaw fell from the Monarch ship and was pulled into the Hollow Earth during the crew’s escape.

The upcoming 10-episode season will also feature returning cast members including Anna Sawai, Kiersey Clemons, Ren Watabe, Mari Yamamoto, Joe Tippett, and Anders Holm.

The series, produced by Legendary Television, boasts an impressive team of executive producers: Joby Harold and Tory Tunnell of Safehouse Pictures, alongside Chris Black, Jen Roskind, Matt Shakman, Andrew Colville, and Lawrence Trilling. Trilling will direct four episodes, while Colville will pen two and also serve as an executive producer. Chris Black will continue as showrunner for Season 2. Notably, Hiro Matsuoka and Takemasa Arita are executive producing on behalf of Toho Co., the esteemed owner of the Godzilla character.

The continuation of Monarch: Legacy of Monsters signals a continued investment in expanding the universe of iconic monsters, promising fans more thrilling adventures and deeper explorations into the mysteries of Monarch.
