The explosion remains quite mysterious but has a strong symbolic significance. Shortly after 3:20 p.m. on Tuesday, a huge explosion rocked Russia’s Novofedorivka air base near Saky on the west coast of Crimea. Moscow assures that it is an accident while kyiv officially remains silent, even as many wonder about a possible Ukrainian raid. The peninsula was occupied by Moscow in 2014 and since February 24 has served as both a rear base and a launching pad for the invasion of the rest of Ukraine.
