Gujarati Film Laalo Shatters Box Office records, Outperforms Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava

A remarkable upset is unfolding at the Indian box office, as Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate continues to defy expectations, surpassing even Bollywood star Vicky Kaushal’s past drama Chhaava in sixth-week collections. The regional film has amassed a staggering ₹24.40 crore in its sixth week alone, a figure unprecedented for a Gujarati production and the highest sixth-week gross of any film released in 2025.

The success of Laalo is a testament to the power of word-of-mouth and a compelling narrative that resonates with audiences. Despite a modest production budget of just ₹50 lakh and a limited screen count compared to mainstream Hindi releases, the film has demonstrated exceptional staying power, particularly within Gujarat and select national markets.

Driven by phenomenal weekend jumps and remarkably stable weekday holds, Laalo earned ₹2.75 crore on Friday, an explosive ₹4.50 crore on Saturday, and an even more impressive ₹6.50 crore on Sunday. This momentum continued into the week, with collections of ₹2.50 crore on Monday, ₹3 crore on Tuesday, ₹2.65 crore on Wednesday, and an estimated ₹2.50 crore on Thursday – a performance typically reserved for major pan-India blockbusters.

By contrast, Chhaava, starring the nationally recognized Vicky Kaushal and released in both Hindi and Telugu, recorded ₹16.30 crore during its sixth week. While its Friday-Sunday trend was respectable – ₹2.10 crore, ₹3.65 crore, and ₹4.65 crore respectively – the film experienced a meaningful drop during the weekdays, with collections falling to ₹1.60 crore, ₹1.50 crore, ₹1.40 crore, and another ₹1.40 crore on Thursday.

Laalo’s performance is nothing short of remarkable,” noted one industry analyst. “A Gujarati film crossing ₹24 crore in Week 6 is unprecedented, marking a historic moment for Gujarati cinema.” The film’s deep cultural appeal, rooted storytelling, and overwhelmingly positive reception have transformed it into a phenomenon, drawing families back for repeat viewings even after 35 days in theaters.

Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate began with modest collections of ₹33 lakh in Week 1 and ₹27 lakh in Week 2. However, strong word-of-mouth triggered a surge in Week 3, leading to collections of ₹62 lakh. This momentum continued to build, reaching ₹12.08 crore in Week 4 and skyrocketing to ₹25.7 crore in week 5, solidifying its status as a blockbuster. While Week 6 saw a slight dip, the film still managed to collect ₹24.40 crore, bringing its total collection to a remarkable ₹63.40 crore.

The film’s success extends beyond Chhaava; Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate‘s sixth-week collection has also surpassed the first-week collections of Dulquer Salmaan’s Kaantha (₹20.65 crore), Ayushmann Khurrana’s Thamma (₹1.35 crore), and Harshvardhan Rane’s Ek Deewane Ki Deewaniyat (₹1.44 crore).

Directed by Ankit Sakhiya and starring Karan Joshi, Reeva Rachh, Shruhad Goswami, Anshu Joshi, and Kinnal Nayak, Laalo – Krishna Sada Sahaayate represents a significant milestone for the Gujarati film industry, proving that compelling storytelling and strong audience connection can overcome budgetary constraints and achieve remarkable success.
