Francine McCarthy from Brock University near Toronto and her international research team prevailed over twelve competitors with their proposal for the reference point of the Anthropocene. The geologist and earth system scientist researches earlier environmental conditions with the help of so-called microfossils. She is a member of the Anthropocene Working Group.
