Lakshadweep Tourism Booms After Prime Minister Modi’s Visit, Flight Tickets Sold Out Till March

New Delhi: After Prime Minister Modi’s recent visit to Lakshadweep, the tourism industry in the serene island is experiencing a surge in popularity. The Prime Minister’s social media posts highlighting the beauty of Lakshadweep have captured the attention of not only Indian tourists but also international travelers.

As a result, flights from Kochi, Kerala to Agathi, Lakshadweep are in high demand. Alliance Air, the only company operating a 70-passenger flight to Lakshadweep, has reported that flight tickets are sold out till March. Only one flight per day operates between Kochi-Agatti and Agathi-Kochi.

To facilitate the influx of tourists, electronic entry tickets to Lakshadweep will now be issued entirely online. Previously, travelers had to pay Rs.200 at the bank and submit the challan to apply for the entry ticket. With the new system, applicants can apply online and receive the admit card promptly.

Furthermore, plans for the construction of a new green airport at Minikai island to accommodate larger aircraft like Airbus 320 and Boeing 737 are underway. This development aims to facilitate direct flights from major cities in India and abroad to Lakshadweep, making it more accessible to travelers. The airport will also serve military purposes.

Additionally, in anticipation of the surge in tourism, plans for the construction of modern hotels and resorts on Suheli and Kamat Islands have been announced. Lakshadweep’s Additional District Collector, Giri Shankar, has also revealed plans to build tents for tourists to stay at Agathi and Kavarati islands, further enhancing the tourism infrastructure.

With the increasing interest in Lakshadweep, the government and private sector are working together to make the island a more attractive and hospitable destination for travelers.
