Lakshya Sen Overcomes Early Setback
World No. 21 Lakshya Sen battled past Ireland’s Nhat Nguyen, ranked 28th, in a challenging three-game match, ultimately prevailing 10-21, 21-8, 21-18. The encounter at the Jyske Bank Arena lasted an hour and 19 minutes, showcasing Sen’s ability to adapt and overcome adversity.
Sen, a semi-finalist at the Paris 2024 Olympics, experienced a slow start, conceding the first game with limited resistance. Though, he dramatically shifted momentum in the second game, dominating Nguyen and allowing him only eight points. This decisive turnaround forced a deciding third game.
“The key was to reset after the first game and focus on my strengths,” a senior analyst commented, observing Sen’s strategic adjustment. The final game proved to be a closely contested affair,with both players matching each other point for point before Sen ultimately held his nerve to secure the victory. Sixth-seeded Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, known as “Sat-chi,” also faced a tough challenge, ultimately defeating Scotland’s Christopher and Matthew Grimley 17-21, 21-11, 21-17 in an hour and four minutes.the Indian pair, fresh off successive runners-up finishes at the Hong Kong Open and China Masters last month, are steadfast to claim their first major title at this tournament.
The match began promisingly for Satwik-Chirag, leading 11-9 at the interval in the first game. However,the Scottish duo mounted a strong comeback,ultimately edging past the Indians to take the opener. Undeterred, the Indian team responded with a dominant performance in the second game, establishing a commanding lead and forcing a decisive third game.
The deciding game was fiercely competitive, with the Scottish pair leading 11-10 at the mid-game break. However, Satwik-Chirag demonstrated their championship pedigree, shifting gears after the interval and winning 11 of the next 17 points to secure their place in the pre-quarterfinals.
Mixed Results for Other Indian Contingent
