Efforts to rescue 18 workers trapped in a gold mine in northwest China’s Xinjiang region have intensified.
About 40 workers were working in the underground gold mine, 100 kilometers from the Kazakhstan border.
A sudden landslide trapped the workers inside the mine. As many as 22 people have been rescued, and efforts are underway to rescue the remaining workers.
Because safety regulations are not properly enforced, mining accidents in China continue to be frequent and cause loss of life.
