Sri Lanka paceman Dushmanthe Chamira has been ruled out of the three-match T20 and ODI series against India at home. Asitha Fernando can be taken in the team instead of him.

Sri Lanka announced the 16-man squad for the India series on Tuesday (July 23). Chamira was in that group. But due to injury, he was dropped from the team on Wednesday.

Sri Lanka’s chief selector Upal Tharanga said, ‘Yesterday we got the report of his injury. According to reports, he will not be able to play the T20 and ODI series against India.

32-year-old Chamira has played 55 T20 matches for Sri Lanka so far. He took 55 wickets at an average of 28.87. He last played in the series against Zimbabwe in January this year. He was also in the 2024 T20 World Cup team. But he did not play a single match.

Chamira made his debut for Sri Lanka in 2015. Initially became an integral part of the Lankan team. After that, he got injured again and again and lost his place in short format cricket.

Wanindu Hasaranga stepped down as captain after the T20 World Cup. Instead, Sri Lanka will play under the leadership of new captain Charith Asalanka in the series against India.

The T20 series will start from July 27 in Pallekele. The remaining two matches will be played on July 28 and 30 at the same venue. The ODI series will start from August 2 in Colombo. The remaining two matches of the series will be held on August 4 and 7 at the same venue.
