A rare and ancient treasure trove of ancient Roman coins has been found in northern Spain. It was not discovered by treasure hunters, archaeologists or government officials. This precious treasure was discovered by a member of the genus Badger, also known as the badger. Authorities say they have now unearthed the largest collection of ancient Roman coins ever found in Spain.
The incident took place in Grado, a town in the Asturias region of Spain. A flood called Philomina struck the region last year. This was followed by heavy snowfall. Due to the natural calamities, the food habitat of the region began to suffer.
In this situation, the drunken bear went hungry for food. He searched every nook and cranny near his den, but found no food for the bear. It was then that a part that looked like it had exploded in the ground caught the creature’s attention. Going there, he dug his leg into the crack and enlarged the hole. The drone bear got some coins. That’s what coins are for. After taking some of it and depositing it near his den, it left the place.
Then by chance two archaeologists came that way and the coins caught their attention. Following this, they searched the entire area and came across more coins. 209 coins were recovered from here. Researchers say that these coins were minted in the 3rd and 4th centuries. These coins are from the city of Istanbul in present-day Turkey and Thessaloniki in Greece.
Such coins had previously been found in Grado. In the 1930s, 14 gold coins were found in a forest in Grado. These date back to the time of the famous Roman emperor Constantine I. Archaeologists are still struggling to gather enough evidence before reaching the final conclusions about the location of the site. So they are preparing to do more exploration here.
