Petrol Diesel Price Today, January 23: After almost 600 days have passed without any change, today’s petrol and diesel price situation in Chennai can be known.

Petrol, Diesel:

The countries of the world are trying to elevate themselves to the point where they operate entirely on electric power while the world is running on fuel. In that line, India has also seen a complete field. In India, petrol and diesel related products are being imported from foreign countries. Whereas India is expected to move itself towards a fully electrified country very soon.

As far as India is concerned, 80% of the vehicles are running on petrol and diesel. Due to this, the increase in the price of petrol and diesel causes a great change in the daily life of the people. Similarly, the rise in fuel prices will reflect to a large extent in the rise in prices of daily essentials. So common people are also monitoring the fuel price situation every day.

Today’s price situation

In Chennai today (January 23), petrol price is Rs. 102.63 per liter and diesel price is Rs. 94.24 per liter. This price action continues unchanged for 612 days. This means that petrol and diesel have been sold without price change for 20 months. People are happy with this. Earlier in 2020 and 2021, the public suffered a huge economic impact due to the lockdown imposed due to the spread of the corona virus infection.

Considering this, on November 4, 2021, the central government has increased the price of petrol to Rs. 5 and the reduction of diesel price by Rs.10 has brought some relief to the people. Petrol was sold at Rs 101.40 per liter and diesel at Rs 91.43 per liter in Chennai on that day. After this, after 5 months on May 22 last year, there was a change in the price of petrol and diesel.

At that time, due to the reduction in excise duty, the price of petrol fell by Rs 8 per liter and the price of diesel by Rs 6 per litre. In such an environment, 16 months have passed without change in petrol and diesel prices, which has caused happiness among the people.

National Biofuel Policy

The National Biofuel Policy announced by the Central Government in 2018 had set a target of selling 20 percent ethanol in petrol by 2030. However, that target has now been revised five years earlier to 2025.

Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said, “Twenty percent ethanol blended petrol will be available in the country from December or January.” Speaking to the media, he said, “We are constantly looking at ethanol production. I believe 20 percent of the blended fuel will hit the market in December or January before April 2023.”

Citing the example of Brazil where flex-fuel vehicles (mixed fuel vehicles) are available, Hardeep Singh Puri said, “Consumers can choose either ethanol or petrol. This will be the ultimate goal of the government.

However, to achieve that level, there are some technical aspects. For that, work is going on. We are going to have a major meeting with automobile manufacturers on ethanol adulteration. India has advanced the target date of achieving 20 percent ethanol blending in petrol by 2025 by five years.

For blending 20 percent ethanol in petrol, our country needs 1,000 crore liter capacity. 450 crore liters are being produced. A tender has been floated for 400 crore litres. Sufficient ethanol is available for a 20 percent dilution. By 2025, a target of 20 per cent ethanol has been set in all petrol sold in the country,” he said.
