Latvia Launches Search for New National Museum of Art Director

The Latvian Ministry of Culture (KM) has initiated an open competition to find a successor for the departing director of the Latvian National Museum of Art (LNMM), signaling a pivotal moment for the nation’s leading art institution. The search follows the announcement in early January by long-time director Māra Lāce of her retirement, effective April 13th of this year.

A New Chapter for Latvian Art

The position of LNMM director carries a gross monthly salary of €4,373. According to the Ministry of Culture, the role demands a leader capable of comprehensive planning, effective management, and seamless coordination of the museum’s operations. Candidate Qualifications

The Ministry of Culture has outlined specific requirements for prospective candidates. Applicants must possess a higher academic degree or a second-level professional higher education qualification in either the humanities or social sciences. Furthermore, a minimum of two years of demonstrable managerial experience is essential.

Language proficiency is also a critical factor. Candidates are expected to have an excellent command of Latvian – at least a C1 level of proficiency – and a good working knowledge of English, specifically at least a B1 level for oral communication skills, as defined by the Europass language self-assessment table.
