The Department of Medical Services is gearing up for the launch of Cancer Warrior, a program aimed at providing comprehensive cancer services throughout Thailand. Starting on October 19, the department plans to train teams of doctors and nurses to be stationed in every health zone, with the goal of spreading knowledge and reducing the concentration of cancer services in Bangkok.

Dr. Amporn Benjaphonpitak, Acting Director-General of the Department of Medical Services, spoke about the upcoming program and its importance in raising awareness and improving cancer care. He emphasized the need to gradually introduce each service for health to the public, as every policy is significant and may not immediately gain public attention.

One of the key focuses of Cancer Warrior is the prevention of cervical cancer through the HPV vaccine. The Ministry of Public Health has announced the importance of this vaccine and the positive outcomes it has shown in preventing cervical cancer. Vaccines are being prepared specifically for female students, who are considered the most worthwhile group to protect. However, the program also encompasses other aspects of cancer care, such as regular screenings and self-examinations for early detection.

Dr. Amporn highlighted the importance of reaching out to adults who are at risk of developing cancer due to existing HPV strains. Previously, getting a Pap Smear test was inconvenient for many women, but now self-testing kits have been developed. These kits allow for cervical samples to be collected and sent for inspection, leading to swift diagnosis and treatment.

The Cancer Warrior program aims to provide comprehensive cancer treatment and education to the public, focusing on creating health literacy and improving understanding. The Department of Medical Services has thoroughly prepared for this initiative and will release a body of knowledge and a set of continuous services.

When asked about the role of the Cancer Warrior program in addressing comprehensive cancer issues, Dr. Amporn stressed the importance of spreading knowledge beyond the National Cancer Institute and Rajavithi Hospital. The program aims to have Cancer Warrior teams in each district, with the idea that strong district-level teams will lead to the establishment of provincial teams. Training has already begun for the doctors and nurses who will comprise these teams, and the official announcement of the Cancer Warrior project is expected to take place around October 19, 2023.

The launch of Cancer Warrior will coincide with various activities and campaigns focused on cancer awareness, particularly in women. The Minister of Public Health is expected to be involved in promoting the Cancer Warrior initiative. With the implementation of this program, the Department of Medical Services aims to provide comprehensive cancer services and support to individuals throughout the country.]
