Welsh Boxer Price Targets April Return, Eyes Stadium Fights

A determined push towards championship contention is underway for Welsh boxing star Price, who is preparing for a return to the ring on April 4th after a significant layoff. The athlete, currently undefeated in nine professional fights, has expressed a strong desire to compete on home soil and build momentum towards achieving her goal of becoming an undisputed champion.

A Lengthy Road Back to the Ring

Despite initial expectations of a fight as early as August, Price will have endured a 13-month absence from competition by the time she steps back into the ring. This extended period away has been focused on intensive training, with Price stating, “I am back sparring and have had a great week of training. I am ready to crack on and put on a good show for my fans.” She confirmed that all preparations are finalized, allowing her to fully concentrate on training and ensure she is “ready for 4 April.”

Cardiff Show to Feature Featherweight Title Bout

The British Boxing Board of Control has officially announced a bout to take place in Cardiff on April 4th, featuring Welshman Rhys Edwards and Birmingham’s Gulraj Powar competing for the vacant featherweight title. The event will be promoted by Ben Shalom, founder and CEO of Boxxer. While an official announcement regarding Price’s participation in the event is still pending, the timing aligns with her stated readiness to return to competition.

Welsh Identity Fuels Boxing Ambitions

Price’s connection to Wales is a driving force in her career. Having previously won gold at the 2018 Commonwealth Games and represented Wales in international football, she emphasizes the importance of her national identity. “I want the big fights, I want momentum and I love fighting in Wales,” she explained.

Prioritizing Home Advantage

While acknowledging offers to fight at prestigious venues like the Albert Hall, Price has made it clear that she prioritizes competing in Wales, aiming to showcase local talent alongside her. “In talks I got offered Albert Hall again, it’s a fantastic venue, but I want to fight in Wales with Welsh up and coming talent on the card,” she said. Her ultimate ambition is to emulate the success of Welsh boxing icon Joe Calzaghe by selling out stadiums and captivating a home crowd. “The dream is to sell out stadiums and follow the likes of Joe Calzaghe, and that starts by boxing at home.”
