Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized Poland for using special means to disperse migrants on the Polish-Belarusian border. According to the Russian minister, the European Union (EU) in the situation with refugees uses double standards and puts itself in an “uncomfortable position.”
Mr. Lavrov believes that Poland is trying to prevent publicity of its actions at the border. According to the head of the Russian Foreign Ministry, the EU Border and Coast Guard Agency, as well as Europol and the Asylum Support Bureau, want to visit the border from the Polish side. However, they “are not allowed to send their experts there, so that they cannot form an objective picture,” the minister said.
“Poland is rampaging, and the leadership in Brussels is using such frank, naked double standards that it itself cannot but understand that it is putting itself in a very uncomfortable position,” Sergei Lavrov said at a press conference in Moscow.
Today, November 16, a group of migrants tried to break through the Polish-Belarusian border. The Polish military responded with tear gas, stun grenades and water cannons. Poland called the refugees “very aggressive”, while in Belarus the actions of the Polish military were considered “inadequate.”
