A new era of mobile broadcasting has begun in Switzerland with teh launch of a state-of-the-art outside broadcast (OB) vehicle by brutal güet, built entirely around IP-based workflows and powered by Lawo’s AoIP infrastructure. The truck, designed, integrated, and project-managed by German system integrator Broadcast Solutions, promises unprecedented adaptability and scalability for live productions.

This approach is particularly crucial in a multilingual nation like Switzerland, where simultaneous broadcasts in multiple languages are commonplace.
At the heart of the vehicle’s audio production setup is a Lawo mc56 MkIII production console with 48 faders, running on a redundant A__UHD Core licensed for 256 DSP channels. The core’s software-defined architecture boasts the capacity to scale up to 1,024 DSP channels within a single 1RU housing. Native support for industry standards like SMPTE ST2110, AES67, and RAVENNA ensures seamless, fully IP-based signal processing.
Advanced Network Control with Lawo HOME
The OB van leverages Lawo HOME, a native platform designed for IP-based media networks. HOME automatically detects and integrates compatible devices,ensuring secure network integration and centralized configuration through an intuitive interface. The platform’s support for NMOS IS-04/05, IEEE 802.1x, and RADIUS combines operational flexibility with robust security protocols.
The recent release of HOME 4.0 and its innovative HOME Pass licensing model further enhances scalability. This model allows broadcasters to license only the active devices and applications they require, making it ideally suited for dynamic productions with evolving needs.
Streamlined Workflow and ergonomic Design
The OB van’s physical design, based on Broadcast Solutions’ Streamline concept, is meticulously tailored to brutal güet’s specific operational requirements. The interior layout prioritizes a clear workflow structure. The front section houses the video control area, featuring a Sony MLS-1 vision mixer for UHD/HDR productions, alongside Slomo and multifunction workstations in an expandable bay.
The Lawo mc56 MkIII console is strategically positioned in the centre section, perpendicular to the driving direction to maintain direct line-of-sight between the audio engineer and the director. A dedicated side window further facilitates interaction. The rear section accommodates camera shading and technical control workstations, server racks, and the hi human interface system for centralized process automation.
