The armed forces of Burkina Faso killed more than 20 militants from the Jamaat Nusrat al-Islam wal Muslimeen group, which has close ties with al-Qaeda (banned in the Russian Federation), as well as the leader of its unit in the north-west of the country, Hassan Idrissou Pain.

As Day.Az reports with reference to TASS, this was reported by the Burkinabe AIB, citing sources in the security forces.

According to them, army units of the African country killed 26 terrorists and their commander on February 20 as a result of fighting on the border of the provinces of Muhun and Nayala. Since 2019, Boli has allegedly led militants in the provinces of Kossi and Banwa in western Burkina Faso, and also created one of the largest terrorist bases in the region in the village of Kinsere.

Burkina Faso has become the epicenter of terrorist activity in West Africa since 2015. Several international extremist groups operate in the country. According to non-governmental organizations, at least 10,000 civilians and military personnel have been killed by militants. About 2 million people in Burkina Faso were forced to flee their homes.
