The separatist approach to Iraq’s politics will only produce injustice and corruption – Cardinal Sacco

Mary Teresa: The Vatican

Major problems in Iraq’s politics have prevented the formation of a government elected by the people for nearly ten months, while protests by opposition parties in the capital Baghdad continue, Cardinal Louis Rafael Sacco has expressed concern.

Cardinal Sacco, the leader of the Chaldean cult in Baghdad, has joined Iraq’s outgoing Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi and other leaders in calling for a national dialogue, warning that the country is heading for a “political tsunami”.

The Shiite Sadrist movement, led by cleric Muqtada al-Sadr, a powerful sect of Shiite Islam, won the October 10, 2021 elections in Iraq.

Cardinal Sacco also pointed out that the rising tensions in the country due to the problems that have arisen in the formation of the new government after the elections will have serious consequences for all citizens.

Cardinal Sacco has insisted that all the parties should hold a dialogue at the national level and has asked the political and religious leaders to address the current situation of the country before the country is swept away.

Cardinal Sacco called for new approaches and new ways to protect the country, as the separatist approach in Iraq produces injustice and corruption.
