/ The Lebanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced, on Wednesday, the submission of a new complaint to the United Nations in response to the recent Israeli complaint about Beirut’s non-compliance with Security Council Resolution 1701.
The Ministry said in a statement reported by Lebanese media, “Based on the directives of the Prime Minister, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates instructed Israel has no intention of staying permanently in Gaza, says defense minister”>Lebanon’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations to submit a complaint on January 9, 2024, before the UN Security Council in response to the recent Israeli complaint about non-compliance.” Lebanon by Security Council Resolution 1701.
The text of the complaint filed included condemnation of the hostile actions carried out by Israeli forces against Lebanon since October 7, 2023, and documented evidence of its violation of Resolution 1701 and the reversal of the facts by holding Lebanon responsible for its blatant infringements on its sovereignty and territorial integrity.
It presented some documented evidence of Israeli attacks that constitute a violation of Paragraph 1 of Resolution 1701, as Israel continues to carry out several offensive military operations detailed in the text of the complaint, including launching internationally banned phosphorus shells targeting several areas in the outskirts of the towns of Aitaroun, Mays al-Jabal, and Blida, which led to the outbreak of fires in forests, destroying 50,000 olive trees, and causing civilians to suffer from suffocation.
In the same context, an Israeli drone targeted a journalist team with two guided missiles, killing them and another civilian who happened to be at the scene on 11/21/2023. All of these hostile actions, in addition to dozens of Israeli military sorties and marches in Lebanese airspace, constitute a described violation of Paragraph 4 of Resolution 1701, according to which the Security Council affirms its “strong support for full respect for the Blue Line.”
