LOS ANGELES, Sept. 18, 2025 – NBA legend LeBron James is navigating a new phase in his relationship with rap superstar Drake, acknowledging they are in “different places” following tensions that flared during Drake’s 2024 rap feud with Kendrick Lamar.
James, speaking in a candid conversation on 360 with Speedy, addressed the current status of his friendship with the artist. When asked directly, James responded with measured respect.
“Always,” James stated regarding his continued regard for Drake. “Always wish him the best, obviously. Different places right now currently. He’s doing his thing, I’m doing mine but it’s always love, without a doubt.”
the bond between the basketball icon and the Grammy-winning musician stretches back nearly two decades, beginning in the late 2000s.Drake famously contributed the song “Forever” to the documentary “More Than a Game,” which chronicled James’s formative years. Thier friendship appeared to grow, evidenced by Drake’s decision to get a tattoo of James on his arm.
However, 2024 marked a meaningful shift. Videos surfaced showing James engaging with Kendrick Lamar’s tracks, including “Not Like Us,” which contained pointed lyrics aimed at Drake. This public display led to widespread speculation online that James was endorsing lamar’s diss.
Drake appeared to respond to this perceived shift in loyalty through his music. In his track “Fighting Irish Freestyle,” he included lyrical jabs that alluded to James’s actions. Shortly thereafter, fans observed that Drake had covered the tattoo of James with new artwork honoring Canadian basketball player shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
While the dynamic between the two stars has evidently changed, James’s measured comments suggest that the possibility of reconciliation remains.Whether their brotherhood can be fully restored is uncertain, but the era of their close companionship appears to have concluded.
