Despite losing second place, Leclerc secured a valuable third-place finish. Reflecting on the race, he acknowledged the risk associated with starting on the soft tyres, noting he was the only driver in the top 15 to do so.
“I was a little bit worried when I saw that I was the only car on softs at the beginning, but I kind of knew that it was a bit of a risky move,” Leclerc conceded. His intention was to leverage the softer compound to gain clear air, a tactic he described as “optimistic” given the presence of two cars ahead. “We at least gained a position, and that helped us a lot for the rest of the race.”
He also expressed enjoyment in the close competition with Norris, stating, “I enjoyed it. Unluckily, today I lost out at the end, but I had fun in the car.”
Overcoming Challenges for a Positive Result
The podium finish was particularly satisfying for Leclerc, who has faced difficulties in recent races, including a gearbox issue during first practice in Austin that limited his track time.
“I’m very happy overall because it has been a tough second part of the year, and to be back on the podium here after what was a difficult FP1 with a gearbox problem, we did well, so I’m happy,” said the eight-time race winner. The result represents a significant boost for Leclerc and the Ferrari team as they continue to navigate the remainder of the season.
