Actors Park Se-wan (from left), Lee Hye-ri, and Jo A-reum pose at the production report meeting for the film ‘Victory’ (directed by Park Beom-soo) held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul on the 10th. ‘Victory’ is a film that tells the story of the ‘Millennium Girls’, a cheerleading club full of passionate rookies who cheer everyone on with exciting dance and songs.

On the morning of the 10th, a production report meeting for the movie ‘Victory’ was held at Lotte Cinema Konkuk University Entrance in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, with Lee Hye-ri, Park Se-wan, Lee Jung-ha, Jo A-ram, and director Park Beom-soo in attendance.

‘Victory’ is the story of the ‘Millennium Girls’, a rookie cheerleading club with only passion, cheering everyone on with exciting dance and songs. It is the new film by director Park Beom-soo, who directed ‘Single in Seoul’ (2023).

Director Park said, “I started when I was suggested to do so by the production company CEO. My friend told me there was a movie she watches whenever she’s having a hard time, and I thought a cheerleading-themed movie could be that kind of movie,” and added, “The 90s, as I remember, were the coolest and most diverse times with dance and song, so I ended up making a cheerleading story from 1999.” Lee Hye-ri played the role of Pil-seon, an aspiring dancer. She said, “The script was perfect, so I said, ‘I don’t think I can do it,’ but the character was so good, and the story was so good that I wondered if I could do it,” and added, “I was worried if I could express this script well, but after meeting the director, my worries turned into trust, and I thought I’d be happy if this project came to me, so I did it.”

In particular, when asked if there was any similarity between her and Deok-sung in Lee Hye-ri’s representative work, “Reply 1988” (‘Eungpal’), Lee Hye-ri said, “I didn’t even realize that the names were similar because the characters were different,” and emphasized, “It could be because of the retro feel, but Pil-sun feels like a leader, a friend that people admire, so he’s a bit more determined and has a clearer desire for his dreams.” She continued, “I don’t think I ever thought about whether I’d show a similar appearance (to Deok-sung) because I trusted the script and acted faithfully.”

Director Park also said, “There were no parts I referenced (from ‘Eungpal’) and there were many parts I avoided,” and “I wrote the scenario with Pil-seon in mind, but I received advice to change the name because I thought it would remind people of Deok-seon, but I thought that’s one thing and this is another. I was confident that I would show Pil-seon who is completely different from Deok-seon.”

‘Victory’ will be released on August 14th.
