Legia Warsaw is undergoing a significant staffing overhaul under new manager Marek Papszun, with plans to accommodate a team of up to 15 individuals at an estimated annual cost of one million euros. The club is actively recruiting from rival Raków Częstochowa, and is also considering a move for respected football analyst Marek Wasiluk.
Papszun Assembles Extensive Backroom Team
Recent reports indicate that Papszun is building a comprehensive support structure at Legia Warsaw. According to information revealed in the “Ofensywni” podcast on “Przegląd Sportowy Onet,” the club’s staffing capacity will reach 15 members. This investment signals a commitment to providing Papszun with the resources needed to succeed.
The Meczyki.pl portal detailed several key appointments, including Artur Węska as an assistant coach, Michał Garnys as a physical preparation trainer, Łukasz Cebula as an analyst, and Paweł Frelik as a psychologist. These individuals recently saw their contracts with Raków Częstochowa expire, preventing Papszun from formally announcing their arrival until recently.
Wasiluk Poised for Coaching Role?
Speculation is mounting that Marek Wasiluk, a well-known expert and TV commentator with Viaplay and TVP Sport, is set to join Papszun’s staff. Roman Kołtoń announced on X (formerly Twitter) that Wasiluk is considering a return to the pitch, stating, “I hear that Marek Wasiluk…will strengthen Marek Papszun’s staff in Legia Warszawa. So the pitch, not the studio, is more tempting for Marek.”
Wasiluk is currently completing his UEFA PRO coaching license, demonstrating his dedication to professional development. One analyst noted that Papszun’s willingness to consider unconventional candidates suggests a desire for fresh perspectives within his team. Wasiluk’s extensive football knowledge makes him a potentially valuable asset.
A Familiar Face Returns to Warsaw?
Interestingly, Wasiluk previously underwent trials with Legia Warsaw in 2006, though a permanent move did not materialize at the time. He enjoyed a successful playing career, notably with Jagiellonia Białystok (2005-2008 and 2014-2018), where he secured two national vice-championships.
Wasiluk also played for Cracovia, Śląsk Wrocław, and Widzew Łódź, winning the Polish championship with Śląsk Wrocław in the 2011/12 season. His experience as a player, combined with his analytical skills, could prove invaluable to Papszun’s project at Legia Warsaw.
