Alex bregman is testing the free agent market after declining his contract option following a productive 2025 season, and several teams are reportedly interested in acquiring the star infielder. But will he land with the Red Sox, or will another club swoop in?
Bregman’s Market: Red Sox, Cubs, and Blue Jays in the Mix
Several teams are vying for the services of the three-time All-Star, but the Red Sox appear to be a strong contender.
- The Red Sox are considered a potential frontrunner if Ketel marte remains with the Diamondbacks.
- The Blue Jays are also in the mix, though they may prioritize Bo Bichette.
- The Cubs, who showed interest last offseason, remain a possible destination.
On Thursday’s episode of “The Baseball Insiders” podcast, Robert Murray of FanSided identified the teams he believes are most likely to pursue Bregman. He suggested that the Diamondbacks’ decision regarding ketel Marte could significantly impact Bregman’s availability. “If Ketel Marte stays put, that probably would rule out (alex) Bregman (signing) with the Diamondbacks,” Murray said (Timestamp: 16:40). “I can’t see a world where they’re able to keep both salaries on that roster.”
Murray believes this situation could benefit the red Sox in their pursuit of Bregman, but cautioned that the Blue Jays are also lurking. “That would seemingly help the Red Sox with their effort in trying to keep Alex Bregman, but you have the Blue Jays lurking. Although, I still think they will prioritize (Bo) Bichette over a guy like Bregman. You also have the Cubs involved, they had interest last offseason that’s maintained into this offseason as well.”

Bregman is projected to secure a contract in the range of $150 million, according to reports.
