These accessories allow you to recharge the internal battery of mobile devices
In the world of wireless keyboards and mice we basically find two alternatives: those that work with rechargeable batteries those that need batteries. Each option has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, if we are running out of battery on a Magic Keyboard we can continue using it while it charges, something almost impossible with the Magic Mouse.
Lenovo wants to put a third option on the desktop. This is a combo of accessories that works with mechanical energy. This proposal completely excludes the need to replace batteries or have to charge the device. On the contrary, it presents a rather curious integrated system that includes a centuries-old concept. Let’s see its details:
Keyboard with dial, mouse with crank
When we are told about mechanical energy devices, we might think that they work simply by using them. Although this would be an ideal solution, what Lenovo is proposing is somewhat different. The keyboard, in the best gaming style and with RGB lighting, has a small dial in the upper left part that we can use to recharge its internal battery.
The Chinese brand claims that moving the dial for five minutes generates enough energy to use the device for 30 minutes. On the mouse, there is certainly no room for a dial, so the engineers have had the idea of incorporating a crank that deploys from the bottom and works in exactly the same way.
The set of accessories has been called Mechanical Energy Harvesting Combo. As its name indicates, the keyboard also incorporates a small photovoltaic panel that can help charge the battery when it is exposed to the sun’s rays. We are not sure, however, how long this method takes to obtain a minimum charge.
The devices can connect to any compatible computer or devices via an included 2.5 GHz USB receiver or via Bluetooth connection. If you’re wondering where you can buy the combo, the answer is that, at least for now, it is a proof of concept that will not be for sale to the public.
