On May 23, a monument to People’s Artist of the Russian Federation Mikhail Gluz will be unveiled at the Vostryakovsky Jewish Cemetery. The sculptural composition was installed on the grave a few months ago. It turned out to be “talking” and includes a slab with a portrait of the composer, made in mourning colors and at the same time referring to the image of the piano, a menorah and a six-pointed star. The idea belongs to the Honored Art Worker of Russia Irina Goryunova. “Everything is thought out by her,” Mark Varshaver, director of the Lenkom Theater, said in an interview with an MK correspondent.

“The author of the idea is me. Sculptor Inna Kunina created the sketch at my suggestion,” Irina Eduardovna herself confirmed these words.

– Mikhail Gluz was a multifaceted personality – one of the founders of the Chamber Jewish Musical Theatre, a man who returned the name of Solomon Mikhoels to our culture, who, together with me, organized more than 90 projects related to the Second World War, the Holocaust and the fate of our compatriots abroad. But his main creative realization was still in music – he was a brilliant melodist. And was inextricably linked with the tool. This is what I wanted to emphasize with the theme of “black and white”, the theme of the piano.

And the Star of David symbolizes belonging to one’s people. In the late 70s, he returned Jewish music and folklore to people, which had been banned for many years. In the 2000s, in different countries of the world, emigrants approached him with old records and programs of performances, the music for which he wrote, and asked for an autograph. I have witnessed this. People took these records with them to emigration, despite the limited weight of luggage.

– Under the portrait, we see notes – what melody are they from?

– This is the main theme of the Memorial Prayer.

– Which of the cultural figures do you expect to see on May 23?

– Confirmed their participation Mark Borisovich Varshaver (he did a lot to make this monument appear), Alexander Moiseevich Boroda, President of the Federation of Jewish Communities of Russia, People’s Artists Andrey Leonov and Sergey Stepanchenko (performers of the role of Tevye in the recreated play “Memorial Prayer”, – I.V.), artists and musicians of our theater involved in the production.

Earlier we reported that at the end of May in the foyer of the Simonovskaya stage of the Theater. Vakhtangov will install a sculptural image of the People’s Artist of the Russian Federation, theater and film actor Vyacheslav Shalevich.
