Armenian Greco-Roman and freestyle wrestlers returned home with 4 medals from the World Wrestling Championship held in Budapest.
Today, the wrestling team, led by head coach Levon Julfalakyan, met with media representatives at the “Hayeli” press club. The latter mentioned that there was a great desire for all our medalists to win gold, but what many of us witnessed turned out to be the case.
“In sports, it is not necessary to make predictions in advance, because there are often slips. We were ready to fight. We wanted all our medalists to fight for gold. But, in all cases, something got in the way, it turned out what it turned out to be.
I positively assess the participation of Arsen Julfalakyan. In wrestling with Vlasov, he made a tactical mistake. It turns out that Vlasov wins the last 3 matches, but both are serious opponents for each other. So far we haven’t been able to find the key to defeating Vlasov, but I’m sure we will find it. In any case, nothing is impossible and we are sure that the time for our victory will come,” Julfalakyan noted.
Referring to World Championship silver medalist Artur Aleksanyan, Levon Julfalakyan emphasized that our wrestler did not have any psychological problems and that the main reason for the defeat was the thoughtful steps taken by the referees.
“As for Artur Aleksanyan’s final wrestling match, it was a thoughtful move by the referees. Actually, we won. Arthur was more attentive and alert in the final match. He had no psychological problems. Until the last moment, he was convinced that he was winning. In the end, he wouldn’t listen to our instructions when we yelled that he needed one more point to win. We will try to apply to the international federation. FILA should punish those referees so that this kind of thing doesn’t happen again.
We should definitely be happy for Roman Amoyan. He wrestled seriously and was very close to the gold medal,” said Levon Julfalakyan.
Speaking about upcoming plans, Julfalakyan mentioned that preparations are being made for the European Cup. The best 6 national teams will participate, including the national team of Armenia. The line-up has not yet been decided and it is very possible that young wrestlers will enter the arena. Then, in December, they will hold general and special physical training and wait for the new year and start all over again.
