The Micro RGB evo, a CES 2026 Innovation Award winner, employs incredibly small, individually controlled RGB LEDs in its LCD backlight. This design aims to surpass the colour precision and contrast levels achieved by previous generations of displays. LG is essentially bringing its renowned OLED control techniques to the RGB LCD realm, a strategic move extending its display technology portfolio.
What makes this TV different? LG’s new Micro RGB evo delivers the highest colour reproduction of any LG LCD TV to date, according to the manufacturer. Intertek has independently certified the set for achieving 100 per cent colour gamut coverage across the widely used BT.2020, DCI-P3, and Adobe RGB standards – benchmarks critical for professionals in cinema, broadcast, and digital imaging.
AI Powering the Picture
To maximize the potential of its new panel technology, LG has equipped the Micro RGB evo with its newly upgraded α (Alpha) 11 AI Processor Gen 3. This chip features a Dual AI Engine architecture, running Dual Super Upscaling. This simultaneous processing of two AI upscaling methods is designed to dramatically boost image sharpness, creating images that are both natural and remarkably clear.
The TV also features Micro Dimming Ultra, managing over a thousand local dimming zones independently. LG claims this granular control delivers its strongest contrast performance yet on an LCD TV, preserving fine details in both the brightest and darkest areas of the picture.
A Smarter TV Experience
Beyond the hardware, LG is significantly expanding the software capabilities of the Micro RGB evo. The company has integrated both Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini into what it calls a Multi-AI environment. Running on LG’s webOS smart TV platform, the interface introduces personalized features like Voice ID, AI Picture Wizard, AI Sound Wizard, and a customizable “My Page” home screen layout.
Viewers will also benefit from an upgraded AI Concierge, AI Chatbot, and AI Search, designed to streamline content discovery and provide information related to what’s on screen.
“Achieving the utmost visual fidelity is the goal of any display, and with the LG Micro RGB evo, we have achieved a milestone previously thought impossible for this category,” said Park Hyoung-sei, president of the LG Media Entertainment Solution Company. “This launch marks the evolution of the RGB TV, redefining industry colour fidelity standards to offer uncompromising performance for customers who demand exceptional colour accuracy.”
The Micro RGB evo, model MRGB95, will be available in 100-inch (MRGB95B, a CES 2026 Innovation Award winner), 86-inch, and 75-inch screen sizes. It joins LG’s existing lineup of OLED and QNED LCD televisions.
LG’s Media Entertainment Solution division, responsible for televisions, audio, displays, and smart TV platforms, continues to invest in advanced backlight and processing technologies to enhance picture quality across its entire range of consumer and professional displays, including Micro LED signage and business monitors.
Attendees at CES 2026 in Las Vegas will have the opportunity to experience the Micro RGB evo firsthand at LG’s stand, where live demonstrations of its picture performance and AI-driven interface will be showcased.
