LG’s new OLED screen is 97 inches and also vibrates

LG announced a 97-inch OLED screen, the company’s largest to date. Thanks to a technology that the company calls OLED.EX, this display enjoys a brightness level 30 percent higher than the existing OLED TV models, more realistic colors and a “perfect black tone”. LG explains that the technology is based on both chemical improvements in the composition of the display, and on a more advanced algorithm for image processing.

In addition, LG was able to integrate into this display a layer that produces sounds through the vibration of the screen itself, without the need for speakers. This technology, named Film CSO, is capable according to LG of creating surround sound equivalent to that of a 5.1-channel home theater system.

Alongside the huge display, LG also introduced slightly smaller models of 42 and 48 inches with the same specifications, as well as additional technology to create a “transparent” OLED display intended for exhibitions, shop fronts and visitor centers. For the cars of the future, LG offers a wide and concave 34-inch display, which according to the company is the largest panel in the world designed specifically for vehicles.

When will it be possible to purchase a 97-inch OLED TV? It will still take time: LG’s consumer division, which manufactures the company’s television screens, has not yet announced models that use the newly revealed panels. According to estimates, a 97-inch model will arrive in stores towards the end of the year, at a price of no less than 25,000 dollars.
