Li Ka-Shing Foundation & Hong Kong Disneyland Offer 5,000 Free Tickets to Migrant Workers
A generous initiative by the Li Ka-Shing Foundation and Hong Kong Disneyland will provide 5,000 migrant domestic workers with complimentary access to the popular theme park, recognizing their significant contributions to the region. The program, described as “a heartfelt gesture of gratitude,” aims to offer a day of respite and enjoyment to a vital segment of Hong Kong’s workforce.
The Li Ka-Shing Foundation, established in 1980 by Hong Kong’s wealthiest individual, Li Ka-shing, has a long history of philanthropic endeavors. This latest effort builds upon previous initiatives supporting domestic workers in the region.
Expanding Access and Eligibility
Eligible workers can apply for the free tickets through three designated non-governmental organizations: the Indonesian Migrant Workers Union, Bethune House, and Christian Action. According to a statement released on Tuesday, successful applicants will be able to visit Hong Kong Disneyland on either March 29 or April 12.
This year marks an expansion of the program’s reach. Previously focused solely on workers from the Philippines, the initiative now extends to include those from Indonesia, India, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and Thailand. This broadened scope reflects a commitment to acknowledging the diverse contributions of all migrant domestic workers in Hong Kong.
A Comprehensive Package for a Day of Fun
The offer extends beyond simple park admission. Recipients will receive a one-day ticket to Hong Kong Disneyland, along with vouchers redeemable for two full meals and a special snack within the park. Furthermore, each worker will be provided with an Octopus card – a widely used contactless payment system in Hong Kong – to cover transportation costs.
This comprehensive package underscores the foundation’s intention to provide a truly accessible and enjoyable experience for the beneficiaries.
Building on Past Support and Addressing Community Needs
The Li Ka-Shing Foundation and Hong Kong Disneyland have demonstrated a consistent commitment to supporting domestic workers. In 2024, the program gifted free tickets to 4,000 Filipino domestic workers, followed by 4,200 Filipino workers in 2025.
Beyond leisure and recreation, the foundation has also responded to critical community needs. Following the devastating fire at Wang Fuk Court in Tai Po in November, which tragically claimed the lives of 168 people, including 10 domestic workers, the foundation pledged HK$30 million to support relief efforts led by NGOs. An additional HK$50 million was allocated for long-term community rebuilding initiatives.
This multifaceted approach – encompassing leisure, support, and disaster relief – highlights the Li Ka-Shing Foundation’s dedication to the well-being of Hong Kong’s migrant worker population and the broader community.
