“Liberty Leading the People”, back at the Louvre after 6 months of restoration, has regained its original colors

The famous painting by Eugène Delacroix was hung this Tuesday at the Louvre, after a long restoration which consisted largely of removing the layers of varnish from the last restoration, carried out in 1949. The painting, which had a dull and yellowed effect , was able to regain its original colors. The sky behind Notre-Dame is blue, the smoke is now white and the tunic of Liberty, which we thought was uniformly yellow, in fact appeared light gray spotted with yellow.
