Ligue 1: Angers is no longer for sale

by time news

The president of Angers (L1), Saïd Chabane, announced that he had given up his plan to sell the club to an American investment fund, believing that the latter did not have the means to give it “a new impetus”.

“A fund that was in the consortium that was to take over the club withdrew for governance issues. What was planned at the start cannot be done today”, declared Mr. Chabane, Friday August 5 at the end of a visit to the new stand of the Raymond-Kopa stadium, which will be inaugurated this Sunday during the Angers-Nantes game.

“I am not one of the people who say: After me, the deluge. When we announced the opening of capital, it was to find someone who would give new impetus to the club,” he added. If the American fund “does not have the means to buy the club, how can it bring it to a level? »

No sale before summer 2023

In search of new partners, minority or majority, for several years, the Angevin boss announced in mid-May that discussions were underway with a potential buyer. Representatives of the American fund GFC (Global Football Corporation) came in June for an audit, but the discussions dragged on.

This fund, which aims to buy several European clubs to create a new network for training and developing young players, had already failed last year to buy the Breda club (Dutch League 2).

From now on, discussions will only continue with one of the group’s partners, the communication company Playfly, with a view to a minority stake in the commercial part, according to the president of the SCO.

And in order not to disturb the club during the season, Saïd Chabane, CEO of the Cosnelle group (charcuterie and cured meats) which entered the capital of the club in 2011, clarified that he no longer intended to hand over before the summer of 2023.
