Kochi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has filed a chargesheet against four persons, including the Superintendent of Customs, in a liquor smuggling case through Thiruvananthapuram International Airport. Customs Superintendent Luke K. George is the first defendant in the case. The other accused are Sundaravasan, CEO of Plus Max, a duty free company, and two other employees. Luke George is still in service.

The worst case scenario is in 2019. The CBI has found that liquor worth Rs 6 crore was smuggled out of a duty shop under the false name of a passenger. The incident was first discovered by Kochi Customs Preventive. After this, the CBI started investigating the case. Madan and Kiran David, employees of Plus Max, are the third and fourth accused in the case. Luke went into hiding for two years after the investigation into the case began.

After this, he appeared before the CBI and surrendered. He was arrested and later released on bail. It is noteworthy that Luke George was not suspended despite so many steps. He continues to serve with his high influence. Luke is currently serving as the Superintendent of Audit in Thiruvananthapuram.

The scam involved collecting passengers’ passport details from more than 15 airlines to smuggle alcohol out. Alcohol was also smuggled using the infant’s passport information. The indictment alleges that Luke collected information from airlines and provided it to a duty-free company.
