Lithuania continues to provide uninterrupted military support to Ukraine. “Continuity of support to Ukraine is our strategic goal. The weapons and equipment supplied by us and our allies make a critical contribution to Ukraine’s struggle for independence and the security of Europe as a whole. We will provide support to Ukraine as much as necessary,” said Lithuanian Minister of National Defense Laurynas Kasčiūnas, quoted by “Defense Express”.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs did not specify how many command and control armored personnel carriers arrived in Ukraine. However, a photo posted on the X social network shows at least three armored personnel carriers.
The M577 Command Post Transporter, also called a Command Post Vehicle or Armored Command Post Vehicle, is a variant of the M113 Armored Personnel Carrier. It is designed to serve as a battalion-level mobile command post.
The crew of the M577 normally consists of five persons: the commander, the driver and the unit management officers and personnel. The armored vehicle weighs 12 tons and has a range of 480 km.
Used by many militaries around the world, the M577 has been adapted for a variety of roles, including as an armored ambulance or fire control vehicle. In addition, improved versions of the M577 can service the German PzH 2000 self-propelled guns, which are already in use by the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
The Lithuanian Defense Department also noted that the country allocated 35 million euros for the Czech initiative on ammunition for Ukraine.
The Ukrainian news portal “Defense Express” writes that Lithuania has been one of the most active allies of Ukraine since the beginning of the full Russian invasion. Lithuania’s military support to Ukraine so far includes various weapons, ammunition, drones, anti-drone systems, military training and repair of heavy equipment.
Lithuania not only transfers military equipment and weapons, but also actively trains Ukrainian soldiers, ensures the treatment and rehabilitation of Ukrainians, and allocates funds to international organizations supporting Ukraine.
Lithuania has already prepared a long-term support plan for Ukraine – 2024-2026. it is planned to allocate 200 million military support package for new acquisitions.
