Prince Philip will finally have his own yacht: the HMS Prince Philip. He who followed with passion and expertise in naval design beyond tech, the construction of the Royal Yacht Britannia … and suffered decommissioning in 1997, never forgiving Tony Blair for having forced the Windsors (and the queen who said goodbye to the yacht with a tear) to say goodbye to their buen retiro on the waves.

For years there had been discussions in London about a new royal yacht, never finding shared consensus (also because it remained to understand who would bear the costs). And to the design of the new yacht – as to that of the Britannia – he, Filippo, had applied himself with passion and competence. Now, after the death of the prince and among the many proposals to remember the Duke of Edinburgh (from a statue in Westminster Hall in the Houses of Parliament to much more), Prime Minister Boris Johnson has opened the door to this tribute. Certainly perfectly in line with Filippo’s profile: a ship, for him that made a name for itself in the Navy and in times of war; a new Royal Yacht that Filippo had dreamed of for years.

And above all a new public contract that will provide work in shipyards and that in the future, when the yacht is delivered, will make it the standard-bearer on the water of British industry. In short, all themes that Filippo have always been very close to, for a lifetime. It will cost 200 million
The new yacht, the HMS Prince Philip, will cost £ 200 million and will be used to promote British entrepreneurship around the world, anchoring it near international trade fairs, using it as a floating platform capable of hosting business meetings and negotiations.

After all, exactly what it was – besides the good retreat on the waves of Elizabeth, Philip and their children when they were children – the Royal Yacht Britannia. How can we forget that at the time of privatization it was also brought from London to the Italian coasts to promote the market economy? Obviously, the new yacht in line with the sustainable sensitivity shared by Filippo (first president of the WWF) as well as by the heir to the throne Carlo, will be equipped with all the most advanced green technologies. After all, the United Kingdom is preparing to host Cop26 in November.
