Undercover Operations Thwart Abortion Attempt and Uncover Criminal Networks in Bogor Regency

A couple’s attempt to obtain an abortion in Puncak, Bogor Regency, West Java, was successfully prevented by local police employing innovative undercover tactics. The operation, led by Cileungsi Police Chief Commissioner Edison, highlights a broader pattern of proactive policing in the region, extending beyond reproductive health to include the disruption of robbery and illicit trade networks.

Averting a Crisis: Undercover Work Prevents Abortion

The Cileungsi Police intervened to prevent a couple from terminating a pregnancy estimated to be around three months along. Acting on information received from the Ciputat Police regarding the couple’s intentions, Commissioner Edison orchestrated a multi-faceted operation. Initial plans involved a policewoman posing as a gynecologist, but suspicion from the man involved – identified only by the initials A – prompted a more direct approach.

“Not wanting to lose time, I was with my wife and operational team Cileungsi Police directly moved to the location according to the point received,” Edison stated on Friday, January 9, 2026. He and his wife then posed as patients seeking gynecological care, ultimately locating the girlfriend in the waiting room.

According to authorities, the couple had already attempted to induce an abortion using medication, but the drugs proved ineffective. Following a dialogue with police, both individuals agreed to continue the pregnancy, with the man expressing a commitment to take full responsibility for the child. The intervention underscores the complex factors surrounding abortion decisions, with authorities suggesting the woman was facing pressure from her parents, who questioned the man’s ability to provide for a child.

Beyond Abortion: Commissioner Edison’s History of Undercover Work

This is not the first instance of Commissioner Edison utilizing undercover tactics to address criminal activity. He previously led operations targeting a violent robbery and a sophisticated LPG gas smuggling ring, demonstrating a willingness to employ unconventional methods to achieve results.

Dismantling a Robbery Ring Targeting Elderly Residents

In September 2025, Edison and his team successfully apprehended the perpetrators of a brutal robbery targeting an elderly couple in Kubang Village, Cileungsi. The suspects not only stole valuables totaling over IDR 100 million – including a Toyota Avanza, a Honda Vario motorbike, and cash – but also physically abused the victims, leaving one with dental injuries.

After a three-month investigation, police arrested Emed alias Aki and Kumis, recovering stolen property worth IDR 79 million. Authorities are still pursuing two additional suspects believed to be at large. In a particularly inventive tactic, Edison disguised himself as a sheep farmer – complete with a sarong, koko shirt, and cap – to apprehend Aki, pretending to be a buyer at his farm in Cianjur.

Cracking Down on Illegal LPG Gas Blending

Edison’s undercover work also extended to combating the illegal blending of LPG gas cylinders. In April 2025, he posed as a courier and an electrical officer to infiltrate a processing site in Cileungsi Kidul Village, where 152 gas cylinders were seized. The operation was complicated by the perpetrators’ extensive network and reliance on coded communication to evade detection.

“So if they just come (in uniform) they will already know that’s it. Contact each other via cell phone chain messages, so that when we enter the location we are targeting, there is no one (the perpetrator) there,” a senior official explained. The area, described as resembling a “drug village,” involved local residents using ice cubes in the gas blending process, further complicating the investigation. Police have uncovered three such LPG smuggling operations in Cileungsi Kidul and Dayeuh Villages.

Commissioner Edison’s proactive and often unconventional approach to policing in Bogor Regency demonstrates a commitment to tackling a diverse range of criminal activities, from protecting vulnerable individuals to disrupting illicit trade networks. His willingness to go undercover, often with the assistance of his wife and team, highlights a dedication to safeguarding the community and upholding the law.
