Hanover – He could rely on his assistants on the pitch. But the women couldn’t trust him. For three years, a regional league referee (28) from Lower Saxony secretly filmed his colleagues showering and changing in the dressing room after the game.
According to a report in the “Hannoversche Allgemeine Zeitung” (HAZ), nine assistants are said to have fallen victim to the peeping Tom, some of whom were even underage. The acts therefore happened between 2018 and 2021. The assistants had no idea about it. But when an ex-girlfriend of the man from Hanover checked his cell phone, she discovered the nude films. Some only filmed briefly through a keyhole, others for up to ten minutes.

Apparently the man had hidden his smartphone in a sports bag in the women’s locker room and left the cell phone camera lens aimed at the showers inconspicuously visible. In football, the referees have their own locker room, which is usually used by all genders.

After some of the women filed a complaint, the police searched the referee’s apartment and confiscated his cell phone and data storage devices. He resigned from all his positions in the Lower Saxony Football Association (NFV) and got off lightly with a penalty notice for violating his personal sphere of life. He has to pay a fine of 3,500 euros. There was no public hearing.
Victims demand compensation
The victims now want to sue him for damages, at least under civil law. Because they are still suffering from the actions. One of those affected said in an interview with HAZ: “I’m always looking for cameras and no longer shower during games.”
After all, after his final conviction with the penalty order, the referee apologized to the women in letters and assured that he had not passed on the recordings or posted them on the Internet.
