As mentioned, as part of the plea agreement with the military prosecutor’s office, Sharoni will admit to approximately 79 serious offenses of indecent acts, violation of privacy, intrusion into computer material and other offenses – in the case exposed in “Maariv”. According to the settlement reached by the parties, Roni will be demoted to the rank of private, will pay financial compensation to the victims of the crime, in a total amount of about a quarter of a million NIS, when the prosecution will demand an actual prison sentence of several years.
Also, the plea agreement does not include an agreement regarding the payment of the retirement allowance. A decision to this effect will be made by the Chief of Staff, Major General Aviv Kochavi, with the approval of the Minister of Defense, Benny Gantz. The Chief of Staff’s position is that in this type of case, the defendant should be denied the right to parole due to his serious actions. However, similar to previous cases, the members of Sharoni’s nuclear family will be able to request a benevolence, which will be paid only to them, and directly, without the accused being entitled to receive it.
As I recall, Lt. Col. Sharoni was arrested in November, and an indictment was filed against him last December. After the indictment was filed, in accordance with the military prosecution’s petition, the Special Military Court ordered Sharoni’s arrest until the end of the legal proceedings in his case. In view of the acts, and following the filing of the indictment Against him, Sharoni was immediately removed from his position.
