Police in Ludhiana are preparing to register a first information report after a 28-year-old woman was assaulted in public by her husband over demands for a Mahindra Thar SUV and a motorcycle, an incident captured on residential CCTV footage. The confrontation took place at night in the Jassian Green Enclave neighborhood, according to police and local reports. The victim, identified as Twinkle, alleged that her husband, Ritish Sharma, subjected her to physical violence after she refused to fulfill his vehicle demands.
Marriage Begins After November 2025 Wedding
The couple married in November 2025 after meeting during Twinkle's divorce proceedings from a previous marriage. Twinkle has a seven-year-old son from her first marriage, while the union marks Sharma's first marriage.
According to the complaint, marital friction began roughly three months after the wedding when Sharma allegedly took out a loan of Rs 50,000 using his wife’s card. Twinkle stated that her husband subsequently demanded a Mahindra Thar SUV, questioning why she could not purchase the vehicle when she earned more than him through her salon.
Although an earlier dispute over the vehicle demands was temporarily resolved through a mediator, tensions flared again when Sharma reportedly demanded a motorcycle around the time of Navratri.
Husband Attacks Wife in Residential Lane
The dispute boiled over on the night of October 21, 2026, in a residential lane. When Twinkle refused the demand for a motorcycle, Sharma allegedly assaulted her inside their home.
Twinkle fled to a neighbor’s house seeking safety, but Sharma pursued her, dragged her onto the road by her hair, and repeatedly slapped, kicked, and punched her as she fell to the ground. Surveillance cameras recorded the entire sequence.
Hearing her screams, neighbors rushed from their homes to intervene and separate the couple. The footage and a formal complaint were subsequently submitted to authorities at the Jagatpuri police post.
Family Members Injured in Subsequent Attack
The violence extended beyond the initial street confrontation. According to Twinkle’s brother, Gaurav, neighbors contacted him and his father during the assault, urging them to come to the scene and take Twinkle to the hospital.
Gaurav stated that upon arriving at the residence, he and his father were attacked by people present at the house, resulting in head injuries that required multiple stitches. Gaurav also lodged a police complaint regarding the attack on him.
Initially, family members alleged delays in police action. However, officials from the Jagatpuri police outpost and the Haibowal police station confirmed that the victim’s statement had been recorded, the medico-legal report had been received, and an FIR would be registered shortly.
