Lunar orbiting Orion spacecraft splashes down in Pacific Ocean

by time news

The American Orion spacecraft, which flew to the Moon as part of the first stage of the Artemis lunar program, returned to Earth and splashed down in the Pacific Ocean near San Diego.

Orion was launched in mid-November with three astronaut dummies. Subsequently, the capsule passed 130 kilometers from the surface of the Moon, sent images and returned to Earth, covering a record distance for a spacecraft designed for astronauts.

The success of the mission suggests that manned spacecraft will go to the Moon in the future.
