Lupus exists in two forms: cutaneous lupus, which mainly affects the skin, and systemic lupus, a chronic autoimmune disease, which can affect all organs or tissues. This second form of lupus affects between 20,000 and 40,000 people in France, making it one of the most common rare diseases. Out of 10 people affected, 9 are women.

Although the disease is present throughout the world, the prevalence of lupus is higher in African-American and Caribbean populations. The symptoms of the disease being very varied, the diagnosis can be long and difficult. What are the causes of lupus? How is the diagnosis made? What are the existing treatments?
