Maccabi Haifa announced yesterday (Sunday) that Masai Dago will end his position at the end of the season and Barak Becher will sign for two years with the club. As mentioned already last week, the president of Maccabi Haifa Ya’akov Shahar informed Dago of the end of his position and the club wanted the players to be focused on the game against Bnei Sakhnin and in a joint decision it was decided to issue a statement on the matter after the game.
Yesterday morning, Maccabi Haifa CEO Itzik Ovadia showed up at the Kfar Galim training complex and together with the professional manager Gal Alberman, the two entered the dressing room and in fact revealed to the players for the first time that Dago would not continue in his position and Bakr would take over.
It’s hard to say that the players were surprised by the message they received, but some were surprised by the timing as they thought the message would come after the end of the season. As mentioned in Maccabi Haifa, they understood that this whole matter was already floating and therefore the attempt not to reveal Bacher’s summary in public may actually harm the parties. Dego himself told the players: “There are seven more games, nothing is finished. This is not the summary phase, we have more to achieve this season. It is important that we are together, I trust you.”
The club estimates that the timing will have no effect on the ability of the players and especially on the attitude, since Barak Becher will start coming to the team’s games as well as to the training complex and the players will try to impress him.
