Emmanuel Macron urged the G7 countries at COP28 on climate in Dubai on Friday to “commit to ending coal” before 2030 for ” lead by example “. He recalled that France is committed to putting an end to it in 2027, the end of its five-year term.

The continuation of investments in favor of coal is “a real absurdity” with regard to the objective of combating global warming, and “so we must make an absolute shift” to get out of it, pleaded the French president from the podium of the major UN climate summit.

The French president addressed emerging countries for whom “we must allow them to catch up economically, it’s an element of justice” without it coming true “based on carbon energies, and in particular coal”. Also, he called for “stop subsidizing new coal power plants” SO “that as I speak to you the private sector has no disincentive to finance a coal-fired power plant”.
