1.4 kg of Gold Worth Rs 91 lakh Seized from Passenger at Madurai Airport
The Madurai airport customs intelligence wing has made a significant seizure of contraband gold worth Rs 91 lakh from a passenger arriving from Dubai. Acting on a tip-off about gold smuggling from Dubai to Madurai by Spice Jet, the authorities conducted a thorough search of the passengers who arrived on the flight.
During the search, 1 kg 436 gm of gold was found concealed along with clay in the belongings of one of the passengers. The value of the smuggled gold has been estimated at Rs 91,61,680. The customs department has confiscated the gold and is continuing to investigate the passenger in connection with the smuggling attempt.
