The traditional fishing festival was held at Chalakipatti Karungulam Kanmai and Sarukuvalayapatti Nainan Kanmai near Melur in Madurai district.
Not only the locals but also a large number of people from the surrounding villages joined their families and enjoyed fishing with enthusiasm. The festival, which was held to ensure good rains and prosperity for agriculture, saw children and adults competing to catch fish.
Most of the fish caught in the country, such as catla, roku, koluthi, carp, kuravai. The public took them to their homes, cooked them, ate them after they had sacrificed to the Lord and enjoyed themselves.
